Let’s be real – navigating sex and relationships is complicated, and it can be hard to know where to even start. The Full Index covers it all. We’ve got the questions - it’s up to you to know the answers.
The classic “sex ed” topics - contraception, STIs, and pregnancy. Get your score and see how you do!
Sex means a lot of different things - reflect on your own thoughts, attitudes, and experiences related to sex.
What’s your relationship TO relationships? This quiz will get you thinking about dating and romance more deeply.
Thank you for your interest in the Sex Index! The goal of the Sex Index is not to cast judgment on any individual’s level of knowledge about sex or sexual experiences, nor to assert that particular views of sex are superior to others. Instead, we hope the Sex Index provides relevant sexual health information and prompts reflection about important sex and relationship questions.
In school we often don't allow for time to reflect on our own experiences and lives. Sex education should teach us how to navigate relationships in our lives in healthy and safe ways, and how to treat yourself and others with respect and care.
Hi! We’re Anson, Kara, and Fumika (and Cornelia, Anson’s corgi). We created the Sex Index at the Center for Radical Innovation for Social Change (RISC) in Chicago.
Special thanks to Andy Cheng, Francisco Ramirez, Dr. Sue Milstein, Dr. Kristen Mark, Melissa Strype, SIECUS, Advocates for Youth, Healing to Action, Jasmin Silva, NASPA/CoRe, Steph Auteri, Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Kate Langrall Folb, Dr. Gretchen Sisson, Sonya Kotov, Christine Hutchinson, and our colleagues at RISC for their insight and feedback throughout this process.
In conversations with our friends, we realized that sex education in the US is broken. Oftentimes, all it involves is the gym teacher covering how to avoid pregnancy and STIs. Sex ed is so much more. We made the Sex Index to try to bring awareness to the gaps in our collective knowledge in an engaging way.
We hope the Sex Index provides helpful information and gets you thinking about important sex and relationship questions.
We’ve compiled a list of helpful resources for all things related to sex and relationships here.
We collect and share aggregate responses to our respondents to illustrate the plurality of experiences around sex and relationships. Your responses are anonymous, and any questions about your identity are optional. Please read our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
We encourage you to share the Sex Index with your friends! It can also be used as a learning tool for sexual health educators in high school and college.
